Have been putting together a list of 50s~60s comfort food casseroles. This one works quite well...with some work on the ingredients, which are not sized:

1 pound "lean" ground beef - Added salt, pepper, and 3 cloves crushed garlic during cooking.

1 can Campbell's tomato soup - Used 11 oz., Tomato Bisque

3~4 medium sized potatoes=21.6 oz after cooking - Added chives, 3 cloves garlic and 3 tbsp butter w/ 2-3 dashes whipping cream. Really needed about 28~30 oz. Spuds. . . and more garlic!

1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese - Used mild, Sharp would be better.

Use a 2-1/2 qt. casserole dish - anything less won't work.

It comes out requiring a very large casserole. WILL SERVE EIGHT EASILY. Don't drain the beans, is a little "wet" the first day, but on warm-up is a terrific "quick" meal.

My grandma made this exact recipe for me when I was growing up (except without the cheese) and I loved it! It is so extremely simple to throw together! Men, women and children of all ages love it, & lick their plates clean! It's sooo good, you have to try it at least once just to say you did =]

You can also substitute a can of whole kernel corn for the green beans. My dad likes the green beans better, I always preferred the corn version.

LOVE IT. I tweaked it just a bit I added some onions to the burger while it was cooking, I cut them up small. The soup and beans adds the perfect mmmmm... Could eat just the burger with soup and beans.... So Yummy!

Very easy & very good! Used instant potatoes to speed up the time. I also spiced up the hamburger a little with onions, garlic, bell pepper & a little southwestern spice. Turned out great!

This is a family holiday favorite. On Christmas, I made 2 different kinds... One as regular and one as reduced fat and calorie. No one could tell the difference! So to make the low fat style. Use Extra Lean Ground Turkey, no salt added green beans, Campbell's Heart Healthy Tomato Soup, Reduced Fat Sharp Shredded Cheese and for the potatoes use salt, pepper and I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Spray. It was amazing and even I couldn't tell the difference :)

I grew up with this meal as well, but I was under the impression my mom invented it...she had us fooled. The only difference was that she didn't bake it, just served in on top of the taters...even faster. Im getting hungry just thinking about this family favorite.

We used to eat this as kids, the only difference was we used an ice cream scoop for the potatoes and added sliced cheese over the heaps. Yummy

This is something I grew up on. We have always made a crust with Bisquick. Using the biscuit recipe from the box then press it into bottom of the pan your using. Layer hamburger then green beans, pour can of tomato soup over and spread evenly. Then add mashed potatoes over top. Smother in cheese, I like cheddar or Velveeta and bake.

I love this recipe! I use tomato sauce instead of tomato soup. Like to add a little chopped onion while browning the meat and season lightly with garlic & onion powders, sea salt, paprika and dried parsley. Always add extra cheese too. Fast and easy dinner!
