TURTLE CAKE | |
1 box German chocolate cake mix 1 pkg. chocolate chips (6 or 12 oz., to taste) 1 lb. caramels 2/3 c. evaporated milk 3/4 c. melted butter Chopped nuts if desired (I like them) Melt caramels in double boiler with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Stir frequently. Meanwhile, greased and flour 9 x 13 inch pan. Mix cake mix with melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Batter will be lumpy. Press 1/2 of the cake mixture into pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes and remove from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top of cake, then pour melted caramels on top. With remaining cake batter, press small amount in your hand and lay on top. It will cook together, sort of. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes more. |
