2 c. brown sugar
1 c. oil
2 tbsp. butter
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. oatmeal
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted after measuring

Cream sugar and shortening and beat well. Then add other ingredients and stir well with spoon.

Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet unless it is Teflon lined. Flatten cookies with glass dipped in sugar. Bake in moderate oven about 8 minutes. Nuts may be added if desired.
