RED VELVET CAKE 
1/4 lb. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cream butter, eggs and sugar until smooth. In small bowl mix cocoa and food coloring. Add to batter. Beat in remaining ingredients except vinegar and soda. Mix soda and vinegar and fold into batter. Bake in 2 greased and floured 8 inch pans at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

BUTTER ICING:

5 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. butter, soft
1 c. sugar

Mix some of milk with flour to make paste. Boil remaining milk. Slowly add flour, baste until mixture forms a lump. Cool. Mix in other ingredients. Beat until smooth.
