FRESH CORN ON THE COB
(MICROWAVE)

Cook fresh corn on the cob in microwave with husks and silk intact. They will cook in their own natural moisture.

Place on dampened paper towel. Turn ears over and rearrange after 1/2 cooking time.

Cooking Timetable:

1 ear - 1 1/2 minutes
2 ears - 3 to 4 minutes
3 ears - 5 to 6 minutes
4 ears - 7 to 8 minutes
6 ears - 8 to 9 minutes.

When ears are hot to the touch, remove and wrap in kitchen towel or foil.

Let stand at least 5 minutes. Remove husks and silk (which is easier than when cold) and serve.

Serve with melted butter.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Fresh Corn on the Cob (Microwave)

 Becky (Alabama) says:
We've been doing this for a number of years now (the ONLY way we eat corn), and like some of the others who have posted here, we do increase the times some. For us, it's usually 2 min for 1 ear and 5 min for 2 ears. We do turn them over about half way through. We also take the husks off immediately instead of letting the corn stand. I like the suggestion to cut off the stalk end of the corn after cooking to let the corn fall out of the husk. Great idea!

I forgot to mention, we had a small-scale competition with family members, pitting husk-on microwave corn against paper-towel microwave corn, and the husk-on method won, hands down! No butter required. : )

Plastic wrap or zip lock bags release toxins! Please consider wax paper... or as the recipe calls for paper towel.

We apparently failed the un-fail-able. Paid attention to every prep detail but corn was cooked very unevenly -- done in some spots, uncooked in others. Darn ... I really wanted it to work. Maybe the microwave isn't powerful enough.

Very fast and good I recommend this.

Best way is to cut off 1/2-inch at bottom of cob. Put in microwave for 4 minutes. When done, grab corn at top with paper towel, shake corn out from bottom. Not 1 silk will be left on cob. Very easy and tasty.

I tried this just last night and oh my goodness it was perfect!!!! So good that my husband wants to have more tonight. I cooked 4 ears but did add 2 extra minutes.

One of the comments said they cooked the corn too long and the husks caught fire. So, I ran water over my husks and placed on wet paper towel in microwave. Cooked 2 slender ears 2 minutes, turned over and cooked 2 more minutes. Let them sit about 4 minutes, held them with a clean rag and shucked with the other hand. Needed the rag to hold them, they were hot! They shucked easily and the corn was DELICIOUS! Husband and I agree, it was the best corn we have ever had. I had always boiled corn on the cob, never again.

Quick and delicious way to cook corn. Grilling is also good, just cut both ends and wrap in foil and grill for about 40 min.

 Stephen M Forster (Maryland) says:
Easier way is to cut the stalk end of the cob (leave in husk) enough that you can see a ring of the corn. Microwave, 4 minutes per ear. It is very hot so remove carefully and using a pot holder squeeze the silk end until the ear of corn falls out. It is now fully cooked and has no silk to remove.

 Jean Bollinger (Texas) says:
Microwave worked well... My 750 watt got the corn hot and tender, shucks easily, then buttered and grilled them (10 min.) for caramelized flavor! Best corn-on-the-cob in my 70 years!

 John Cox (South Carolina) says:
DO NOT cut off the tassels! Cut off the other end instead making sure to whack off about a 1/4" or at least one or two kernels deep. After cooking, hold the ear by the tassel end and the cob will slide right out, COMPLETELY CLEAN and free of silks.

 Kathryn (North Carolina) says:
Agree - never cut off the 'tassel' end first - and for those of you that like to soak and grill outside -- I season my 'soak' water -- couple of teaspoons cumin, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder and 1/2 tsp garlic powder -- or just play with whatever seasoning you like -- most will be 'aromatics' and not actually 'flavor' -- and you can always make an herb butter.
