1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Chill dough overnight. Roll on floured board 1/8 inch thick. Cut in shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. Frost and decorate.
