DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 c. sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
2-3 sq. Baker's unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. milk

Sift flour once, measure. Add soda and salt. Sift together 3 times. Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each; then add chocolate and blend. Add flour alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla.

Turn into two 9 inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with paper. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 25-30 minutes. Spread with chocolate frosting.
