DEVILS FOOD CAKE 
Combine:

1 c. sugar
3/4 c. cocoa
1 c. milk
1 egg

Cook until thick - cool and add - cream:

1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs

Add:

2 c. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Alternate with 1/2 cup sweet milk; add mixture and vanilla. Bake at 350 degrees.

DEVILS FOOD CAKE FROSTING:

2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Karo
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt

Cook until firm ball stage, pour hot syrup over 2 well beaten egg whites. Beat until ready to put on cake.
