ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
5 egg yolks
2 c. plain flour
5 egg whites, beaten stiff
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
1 c. coconut

ICING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, room temp.
1 stick butter, room temp.
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix butter and Crisco well. Add sugar and egg yolks one at a time and beat well. Sift flour and soda twice; add alternately with buttermilk, add vanilla, nuts and coconut. Fold in egg whites. Beat well. Bake in 3 layer pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

ICING: Mix and spread on cake. Sprinkle with nuts.
