JESSICA'S NOT YOUR TYPICAL FRENCH TOAST | |
Great for breakfast. Can also double as a dessert - heat up and serve with ice-cream! 12 oz. French bread (cut into 1-inch slices) 8 large eggs 2 cups half & half 2 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. mace Heavily butter a 9x13-inch cake pan. Fill cake pan with French bread slices. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and mace. Pour over bread and cover with tin foil. Put in refrigerator overnight. MORNING TOPPING: 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) softened butter (not melted) 1 1/3 cups brown sugar 3 tsp. dark corn syrup (Karo) 1 1/3 cups chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) Mix topping ingredients well. Pour over chilled bread slices. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes and enjoy!! Makes about 10 servings so its great for a large family. Submitted by: Jessica Butler |
