LEMON BREAD 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. nuts, chopped (optional)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Add nuts and lemon peel. Put into greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Prick holes in top of warm loaf and spread with topping.

TOPPING:

1/4 c. sugar
Juice of 1 lemon

Combine and spread on warm loaf.
