SALAD DRESSING CAKE FROM SCRATCH
My grandmother, mom and now my wife all make this recipe and it is fantastic. We make a homemade chocolate/peanut butter icing and put on the cake while warm. It almost makes a thick glaze. This cake is extremely moist and delicious.

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup salad dressing (Kraft Miracle Whip)
1 cup water
2 tbsp. vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda

Mix well with wooden spoon. Bake in greased 9x13-inch pan at 375°F for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool 10 minutes.

Note: For good flavor, 2 tablespoons vanilla are needed. Directions given for the mix cake are to completely cool cake before frosting. The scratch cakes were cooled no more than 10 minutes before frosting unless Seven Minute Icing is used.

Thank-you for this recipe. As a kid, my mom made this all the time. I remember dad would say,"forget the icing! pass the butter." Best cake in the world. I lost my recipe over the years, and now thanks to you, I have the same exact one we used. My husband's mom also made this with the peanut butter icing. You brought tears to my eyes! Thanks again.

No better tasing cake than this one. Favorite of my family with white powdered sugar icing on top, and homemade ice cream. I have eaten it since the late 40's. SO MOIST!!!

Back in the forties my mom made this every Sunday. My friends and I would go to the Sunday matinee with a piece of this cake. I never made it and when mom passed on, the recipe went with her. Thank you for bringing back those memories. Anxious to try it.

It is really good when you put a piece of cake in a glass of milk.

Love this cake. My Mother called it the eggless, milkless, butterless cake. She is gone, now I have the recipe again. Thank you.
