Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

 Pat (Wisconsin) says:
I used this recipe last night for my tacos and I was very impressed. I didn't have the onion powder or powdered oregano, but still came out good. Next time, I think I'll add tomatoes to it.

This is much better than in the store! I added a little less chili powder because I have a son with sensitive taste buds, and didn't want to burn his mouth. I don't think I'll be buying taco seasoning anymore.

 Leslie (Michigan) says:
Tried this tonight because I am trying to cook without sugar and all commercial packaged taco seasonings have sugar. I made this recipe without sugar and my chili powder already had the cumin, oregano and garlic powder, so didn't add them separately. I didn't add any salt either. This was truly delicious. The best taco meat I've ever made. No more packaged mix for me!

I tried it with ground pork, the water and 3/4 tsp. salt already suggested, and two tsp. vinegar. Served it with whole wheat tortillas, shredded cheese, chopped tomatoes and olives. I agree, the recipe is great; my family LOVED it.

Great mix! I need to limit my sodium intake, so used 50% lite salt, and combined with the other ingredients, we didn't notice a difference. It's quite flavorful. Did use the suggested 3/4 c water. Will certainly use it again...might give the tomato paste / sauce a try next time.

I used Ground Turkey. I add Minced Onion instead of Onion Powder. I also used 3/4 to 1 cup water. I also used 1/2 tsp Spainish Paprika and 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika. This Taco Seasoning Mix was GREAT! Like the others...I will probably never buy any commercial mix again! Thanks, to whomever made this recipe!

I've been using this recipe for about 1 1/2 years now. EXCELLENT recipe! Friends and family rave about how good it tastes (and I make this AS IS, without modifying the salt content). I am asked for this recipe on a regular basis. I have to agree, I LOVE IT! I make 3-4 batches of it and store it in the cupboard.

There is also a modified version of this recipe that calls for 3 tbsp. of tomato paste to be mixed with 1 serving (=3 tbsp. of seasoning mix) and then mixed with the ground beef. This isn't necessary! I have made this with and without the tomato paste and really didn't notice a difference in taste or texture.

I will NEVER go back to UNHEALTHY, COMMERCIALLY PREPARED taco seasoning mixes!

Great recipe! I used the extra salt and water and cooked about a 1/4 of a cup of minced fresh onion with the beef instead of the onion powder. Better than store bought!

This recipe was great! Kids loved it. I omitted the sugar and was very tasty.
