HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING MIX 
2 tsp. chili powder
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
1 1/2 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. onion powder
3/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash cayenne

Combine all ingredients. Use instead of 1 package taco seasoning mix. If not using entire amount, store tightly covered, in a cool dry place. Makes 3 tablespoons.

I use this as my "base" recipe. I leave out the 1/2 tsp. of salt, and only add the cayenne if I'm out of medium chili powder. I also use smoked paprika.

I made this recipe today when I realized I didn't have store bought. I love the flavor and its so easy. I know there isn't any preservatives or artificial anything. I will make this from now on.

Discovered that I was out of store bought seasoning when I was in the middle of browning the ground beef for a quick taco dinner. Found this and was able to mix it up very quickly. Good substitute. I agree with the other reviewers: I like knowing what is in it (or not), and next time I would cut the salt by at least half (Just a little too much for me). Also, I think I will try a couple dashes of cayenne.
