MY GRANDMA'S THUNDER CAKE 
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
3 eggs, separated (save whites)
1 c. cold water
1/3 c. pureed tomatoes
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1/2 c. dry cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cream together at one time the vanilla, shortening and sugar. Blend in egg yolks. Beat whites until they are stiff, then fold in. Mix dry mixture into cream mixture.

Bake in 2 greased and floured round pans at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost with chocolate butter frosting. Top with strawberries.

Many years ago my granddaughter made this cake recipe for me when I visited them in Hawaii. It was the best and tastiest cake I have ever eaten! I couldn't stop eating it and would sneak back into the kitchen to eat some every sneaky chance I got. YUMMY!
