GRANDMA'S APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts
pinch of salt
2 c. applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
3 c. flour (all-purpose)

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Combine applesauce and soda. Add to creamed mixture. Mix raisins, nuts, spices and salt with sifted flour. Add to applesauce mixture.

Bake in greased and floured tube pan or Bundt pan at 325°F for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Top with caramel icing.

Grandma's Caramel Icing:

1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
about 1 c. confectioners sugar

Boil butter, brown sugar and milk for 1 minute. Let cool. Sift powdered sugar. Beat into cooled mixture. If too thin, add more powdered sugar. If too thick, add a little milk. Double recipe for a 2-layer cake.
