CHOCOLATE MARSHMALLOW COOKIES 
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup milk
1 3/4 cups cake flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa
30 marshmallows, halved (cut before baking)
chopped nuts, for sprinkling (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Cream sugar, shortening and egg; add vanilla and milk; beat well. Sift dry ingredients; add to above mixture.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F for 8 minutes. Do not overbake!

Remove immediately and press 1/2 marshmallows, cut side down, on top of each cookie; return to oven and bake for 2 minutes more. Cool.

COCOA FROSTING:

1 (1 lb.) box confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/8 tsp. salt
4 to 5 tbsp. cream
5 tbsp. cocoa
4 tbsp. (1/2 stick) butter

Mix cocoa frosting ingredients; spread on cookies. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top, if desired.

Makes 5 dozen.
