GREEK BUTTER COOKIES 
1 c. butter (unsalted)
1 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. brandy
3 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 lb. confectioners sugar
1/2 c. blanched almonds, finely chopped (optional)

Mix butter and 1 cup sugar until very light and fluffy. Stir in egg yolk and brandy. Then add flour with baking powder, a little at a time. Knead well until dough is smooth. If it is too soft, add a little more flour.

Take small pieces of dough and shape into 1-inch balls, or in a crescent or pear shape, and insert a whole clove in each cookie. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Roll, while warm, in confectioners sugar or sift the sugar over the top so it will be very well coated. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen. Remove clove before eating!
