HOW TO COOK A HAM 
This recipe is for a large (10+ pounds) Virginia style smoked ham. If you have a smaller ham, see Genuine Virginia Baked Ham or Holiday Ham.

Wash and scrub ham well; soak overnight in a cool place.

In 5 cups of water, cook for 25 minutes at 500°F. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F and cook for 20 more minutes.

Turn oven off and wait for 2 hours, then repeat. Keep oven closed.

Leave for 8 hours. Do not open oven door.
