PEPPER STEAK 
1 lb. round, cubed steak
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. catsup
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 beef bouillon cube
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 green pepper
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms

Brown steak, which has been cut into short strips, in the shortening. Remove meat and blend flour into the shortening. Add water, catsup, soy sauce, pepper, beef bouillon cube, garlic and onion and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer 20 minutes. Drop meat into sauce, add green pepper and mushrooms. Cook until tender, about 20 minutes. Do not add additional salt. Serve over rice.
