BE MY VALENTINE RED VELVET POUND
CAKE
 
Perfect for Valentine's day!

3 cups sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
5 eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 oz. red food coloring (McCormick; about 2 tbsp.)
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.

Cream sugar, butter and Crisco. Mix flour, cocoa and baking powder together. Add eggs into sugar, butter and Crisco, one at a time. Stir in food coloring and vanilla.

Add flour and milk to mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake at 350°F for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, usually 2 hours.
