CARAMEL - CHOCOLATE BARS 
1 pkg. (2-layer size) Pillsbury German chocolate cake mix
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. melted butter
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 pkg. caramels (14 oz.)
1/3 c. milk
1 c. chocolate semi-sweet pieces

Mix cake mix with 1/2 cup milk and melted butter. Add walnuts. Put 1/2 of the mixture in greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Melt caramels with 1/3 cup milk in glass dish in microwave for 3 to 3 1/2 minutes, stirring occasionally until smooth. Or melt in 1 1/2 quart heavy saucepan over low heat stirring constantly until melted.

Sprinkle baked crust with chocolate chips. Drizzle with caramel sauce. Drop remaining cake mixture by teaspoonfuls all over top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes.

Cool. Cut into 36 bars.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
