VERY DELICIOUS TENNESSEE
CHOCOLATE CAKE
 
2 c. sifted flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 cube butter
4 tbsp. cocoa (1/4 c.)
1 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten

(No beaters.) Grease and flour pan - line with wax paper. Place sugar and flour in bowl; mix well. Bring to rapid boil, shortening, butter, cocoa and water. Remove from heat and pour over sugar and flour mixture. Stir well. No Beaters. Add vanilla, buttermilk, soda and eggs. Stir well. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

WALNUT FUDGE FROSTING:

3 tbsp. cocoa
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/4 lb. (1 cube) butter

In saucepan bring to boil. Remove from heat and pour over 1 (1 pound) box powdered sugar (4 cups) in small bowl. Beat well and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat well and stir in 1 cup chopped nuts. Put frosting on warm cake. if frosting is stiff add dab of milk.
