OSAGE SQUAW BREAD 
4 tbsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
1 qt. lukewarm water
All-purpose flour

Mix together baking powder, salt, shortening and water.

Stir in enough flour to make biscuit dough consistency.

Roll on lightly floured board and cut in small squares. Do not handle dough any more than is necessary.

Fry in kettle of deep hot fat.

SYRUP:

1 qt. white corn syrup
1 lb. brown sugar
1 tbsp. maple flavoring
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1/2 c. bacon drippings

Mix corn syrup and brown sugar in saucepan; bring to boil. (Do NOT add water.)

Add maple flavoring and cayenne.

Remove from heat and beat in bacon drippings. Serve over Squaw Bread.

The Osage barbecue crew has served Squaw Bread at all the important county functions for many years.

Good with any meal, with or without the syrup.
