ORIENTAL CABBAGE 
1 med. head cabbage (1 1/2 lb. approx.)
1 1/2 tsp. crushed hot red pepper (optional)
1/2 c. light brown sugar
1/3 c. cider vinegar
2 tbsp. soy sauce or teriyaki sauce
3 tbsp. oil

Cut cabbage in small chunks, discarding core and tough outer leaves. Mix remaining ingredients, except oil and set aside.

Heat oil in pan over medium heat. Add cabbage and heat, stirring, until small leaves become translucent. Remove from heat and stir in seasoning mixture. Pour cabbage and liquid into large bowl. Place around edge of bowl, leaving a well in center, so that cabbage will cool evenly. Stir occasionally while cooling. Can be served warm or cold.
