BATTER FOR ONION RINGS 
1 c. plain flour
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. onion salt
1 egg, beaten
3 tbsp. oil
3/4 c. club soda or 7-Up

Sift flour, sugar, soda, baking powder and salt. Add egg, oil and club soda or 7-Up. Be careful not to overbeat. Dip onion rings in batter and fry in hot oil. Drain on paper towels. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and onion powder while still hot.

This was an excellent recipe. Not as complicated as some batters. I used self-rising flour so baking powder and baking soda unnecessary. I substituted garlic powder for onion powder. Best onion rings ever!
