GERMAN CHOCOLATE TURTLE BARS 
1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels (50 candies)
1 (5 oz.) can evaporated milk, divided
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, melted
1 cup chopped nuts
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips

Melt caramels with 1/3 cup (1/2 can) evaporated milk. Set aside.

Mix together cake mix, melted butter, remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts. Press 1/2 mixture into 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 350°F for 6 minutes.

Sprinkle chocolate chips over crust. Pour on caramel mixture. Dab remaining dough over caramel layer. Bake at 350°F for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.

This is the exact recipe I got from a co-worker almost 30 years ago and am so glad I found it! Had to buy 2 bags of caramels but at least this recipe gives you the exact number needed. Check at 15 minutes. This is delish!
