BLACK WALNUT COFFEE CAKE 
3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. nuts, chopped

With pastry blender, mix first 7 ingredients until very fine. Take out 1/2 cup for topping. Mix in buttermilk, baking soda and nuts. Pour into greased and floured 9"x13" pan. Sprinkle on topping (use more cinnamon, if desired). Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
