SCALLOPED TURNIPS 
6 med. turnips
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. flour
2 c. milk
1/2 c. sharp cheese, grated
Dash of pepper

Peel and cut in quarters 6 medium size turnips. Cook in salt water until tender, drain. Prepare cheese sauce as follows: Melt 2 tablespoons butter, add flour. Combine until smooth. Add 2 cups milk slowly, stirring constantly until it boils. Remove from heat and add cheese and pepper. Fold in turnips. Put in buttered casserole dish. Cover with buttered bread crumbs and bake until crumbs are browned and dish is hot. Yields 8 servings.
