ASPARAGUS BAKE 
2 (12 oz. ea.) cans cut green asparagus
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 1/2 c. saltine crackers, crushed fine
4 tbsp. (1/2 stick) butter
3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 c. milk
salt and pepper, to taste
1 (5 oz.) jar Old English cheese
1/2 c. slivered almonds
paprika

Drain asparagus well. Melt 1 stick butter. Add cracker crumbs and mix well. Grease a 9x11-inch glass dish and line bottom with half of cracker mixture. Make a cream sauce of 1/2 stick butter, flour, milk, salt and pepper. Add cheese and blend. Add layers to dish in this order: asparagus, cheese sauce, almonds and top with the remaining buttered crumbs. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake 12 minutes at 450°F.
