RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs and mix well. Sift the flour 3 times, and gradually add flour and cocoa to creamed mixture. Add vanilla, buttermilk and food coloring. Beat well. Fold in baking soda which has been dissolved in vinegar.

Pour into 2 prepared round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and frost with either the Creamy Frosting or Cheese-Coconut Frosting.
