CHRISTMAS WREATH RING 
1/4 c. softened butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. water
1/4 c. candied cherries, cut in half
1/4 c. citron, cut into strips
2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. cold butter
2/3 to 3/4 c. milk
2 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
A dash of cinnamon
1/4 c. currants

Spread softened butter in a ring mold and pat sugar over bottom and sides. Sprinkle water in mold. Arrange cherries and citron in bottom to resemble holly. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in cold butter. Add milk to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured board and knead gently 30 seconds. Roll out in rectangle 6 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick. Brush lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and currants. Roll like a jelly roll and cut into 1 1/2 inch slices. Place cut side down in prepared mold. Bake in 400 degree oven for 30 minutes. Let stand in pan 1 minute after removing from oven. Serve hot or cold.
