CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES 
1/3 c. butter, softened
2 1/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 to 1 1/2 tsp. milk
2 tsp. cherry liqueur
2 (10 oz.) jars maraschino cherries with stems, drained
1 (8 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate squares
1 tbsp. shortening

Beat butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar. Add milk and liqueur. Mix until blended. Shape sugar mixture around cherries. Coat completely and put on wax paper. Microwave chocolate in 2-cup glass measuring cup at High 1 1/2 minutes or until melted. Stir twice. Dip coated cherries by stems into chocolate. Allow excess to drip off. Place on wax paper. Let stand until firm. Store loosely covered in cool place 1 week or until centers soften.

Yields 3 dozen.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
