FIG PRESERVE CAKE 
3/4 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
3 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. each nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. pecans
1 pt. fig preserves

Mix sugar and butter well; sift flour and measure. Sift again with spices. Add soda to buttermilk. Now add eggs, flour and milk alternately. Add preserves, vanilla and nuts. Bake in a tube pan 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. Put pan of water on bottom of oven -- under cake -- while baking.
