FORGOTTEN MERINGUES | |
2 egg whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar Pinch of salt 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate bits 1 c. broken pecans or walnuts Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets. Beat egg whites until frothy. Beat in cream of tartar and salt, then gradually beat in sugar and vanilla until the egg whites are very stiff. Fold in the chocolate bits and nuts. Drop the mixture by rounded teaspoons onto the prepared cookie sheets. Place in oven and immediately turn the oven off. Leave cookies in oven overnight or until oven is cool, if you make them early in the day. Do not open oven until very cool. Makes 2 to 3 dozen cookies. |
