STRAWBERRY MERINGUE BARS 
3/4 c. shortening
1/3 c. sugar
2 egg yolks
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. strawberry preserves
2 egg whites
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. chopped walnuts

Beat together shortening, egg yolks and 1/3 cup sugar until light. Add flour, blending thoroughly. Spread mixture in ungreased 13 x 9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Spread preserves. Beat egg whites until stiff. Add 1/2 cup sugar beat until it holds peaks. Fold in nuts. Spread carefully. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool and cut.
