“COUNTRY STYLE BARBECUED PORK RIBS” IS IN:

COUNTRY STYLE BARBECUED PORK
RIBS

1 1/2 to 5 lb. country style pork ribs (with or without bones)
1 cup lemon juice
1 large onion, chopped
4 cups water
3 cups ketchup (Hunts)
1 cup vinegar
8 tbsp. brown sugar
8 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. paprika
4 tsp. powdered mustard
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Put half the chopped onion in a large covered oven pan (like a turkey roaster or lasagna pan).

After trimming off the excess fat, place the ribs in the pan and sprinkle the remaining onion over the top. Pour the lemon juice over the ribs, then brown in a preheated 375°F oven for 45 minutes, uncovered.

While the ribs are browning, combine the rest of the sauce in a large pot and slowly bring to a simmer on top of the oven.

When the ribs have browned, pour off most of the liquid in the pan (save the onion) and add the sauce. It should be enough to fully cover the ribs.

Cover the pan tightly and bake at 425°F for 2 hours. Uncover the pan and bake for about 30 minutes more until the sauce cooks down.

Note: The meat should just about fall off the bones and the sauce is about half its original volume.

 Danielle (Arizona) says:
This recipe was amazing! It was very easy and tasted great. My boyfriend said they were the best ribs ever! I did have to substitute a can of tomato soup for the ketchup cause I was all out. It turned out better then expected and I will be making this again and again.

Great recipe! My husband and I both loved this. The only change I made in the recipe, I added a touch of liquid smoke it was great! We ended doing our ribs in a counter top buffet style electric fryer. Wanted to save on heating the kitchen. It worked great! We will make this again. Thank you!

This was a great recipe, I also didn't want to heat up my kitchen, so I used my Turbo Oven and it not only tasted great, it was very tender.

My ribs came out very flavorful and tender, very easy to make and it was a big hit with my husband. I paired the ribs with tomato cucumber salad, baked potatoes, and steamed broccoli covered in cheddar cheese. Loved it!

 Susan Elerrina (British Columbia) says:
This was absolutely horrible! It was overwhelmed by the ketchup and vinegar. Inedible. I made this on the basis of the great reviews it got as I needed a recipe for a family dinner I was having. I was so embarrassed. Nobody could eat it. That is the last time I trust recipe reviews.

 Jasiu Wawrzkowicz (South Carolina) replies:
Stop claiming something is terrible and you will never trust recipe reviews simply because your household didn't like it. You could have judged by the ingredients that it was more on the vinegar based side of things and adjusted accordingly to your household taste. BBQ sauces come in many variations from vinegar to sweet to mustard. Some people only like one type and not the rest. It's not the recipes fault or the reviewers fault that you ignored your own input and judgement.

Ribs always have ketchup and vinegar. Get over it.

Used store bought BBQ sauce and added additional water.. noticed a "burn" smell at about 1:30 mins... good thing I checked! Meat was falling off the bone.. tasted good, however..I have a bit of scrubbing to do.. thank God for Dawn Power Dissolve!

To sum it up in one word - Outstanding! My kids are very picky and both had second helpings. I had almost 3.5 pounds of ribs, and had plenty of sauce for them. The meat was fall off the bone tender. Will make these again!

I used 1 cup brown sugar. I added 1/2 white sugar, 1/2 cup honey. Instead of chili powder I used Cajun spice and I used red pepper flakes instead of cayenne pepper. It turned out sooooo good!! My hubby loved it!
