2 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 c. shortening
2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour

Combine sugar, water, raisins, shortening, cloves, salt and cinnamon in a saucepan and let boil. Cool completely and add soda and flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour in 9 x 13 inch pan.
