1 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/3 c. buttermilk 1 tbsp. shortening (Crisco, solid, not liquid) Into a large bowl sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar. Cut Crisco in with knife or pastry blender. Flour pastry board, pat into circle about 1/2" thick, cut into quarters. Place on ungreased griddle over low heat, 325 degrees. Total cooking time about 5 minutes on each side. If cut ends are not cooked stack on ends or sides to cook. Tastes delicious with jam or orange marmalade. |
