CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 box yellow or chocolate cake mix

Prepare as directed using sheet cake pan.

CHOCOLATE FUDGE FROSTING:

2 c. sugar
1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. shortening or butter
3 tbsp. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients except vanilla in medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and sugar is dissolved. Heat to rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil rapidly, stirring constantly, 1 minute or 220 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove form heat and stir in vanilla.

Place the pan in a bowl of ice and water to cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Beat the frosting until it loses its gloss, and is of spreading consistency, about 10 minutes. Spread on cake while cake is hot.
