BUTTER SPONGE CAKE 
1 beaten egg yolk
2 c. sugar
1 c. scalded milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. melted butter

Beat egg yolk with sugar until light in color and fluffy; add slightly cooled milk, vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder together 3 times, add to mixture. Fold in batter. Bake in 2 paper lined pans 9 x 9 x 1 3/4 inch. Moderate oven 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
