POLISH CABBAGE ROLLS
1 lb. ground beef
1 sm. onion
1/2 c. cooked rice or Minute Rice
1/2 tsp. salt
Pepper
1 lg. cabbage
Canned tomatoes, tomato juice or tomato soup
1 tsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice

Brown onion in a little butter; add to raw meat and rice. Add salt and pepper and mix together. Steam large cabbage to remove leaves easily. Place about 2 tablespoons meat mixture on each cabbage leaf and fold over and roll up. Stick with a toothpick if necessary to hold together. Place stuffed rolled cabbage leaves in pot. Add canned tomatoes, juice or soup. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, brown sugar and lemon juice. Cover and simmer on stove for 2 hours.

I'm from Poland and I have never heard of adding brown sugar and lemon to the stuffed cabbage and I bake not cook my stuffed cabbages. My husband wouldn't eat anything with brown sugar on it. We have never used brown sugar in Poland. I've used tomato sauce on top of the cabbage rolls. I guess different parts of Poland have different recipes. Your's sound good except for the brown sugar and lemon juice. Thanks for posting your version.

Could you please post your stuffed cabbage recipe? I'm polish and remember my late Mom making them. I think I remember most of it but not all. She oven-baked hers also and I remember her using tomato sauce as well. Thank you.
