OLD NANTUCKET GINGER SNAPS 
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening or vegetable oil (1/2 c.)
1 beaten egg
4 tbsp. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt

Mix together, roll in small balls, and dip one side in sugar. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 375 degrees.
