NEXT RECIPE:  CRISP ALMOND COOKIES

CREAM CHEESE SPRITZ COOKIES
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
1-1/4 cups sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. pure almond extract
1/2 tsp. butter flavoring (optional)
1 tbsp. butterscotch schnapps
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream together butter and cream cheese; add sugar.

Cream mixture until light and fluffy.

Add egg yolk, beat well; stir in flavorings.

On low speed, gradually add flour and salt.

Cookie dough will be soft and somewhat sticky; adjust consistency if dough seems too sticky, adding a tablespoon of flour at a time; if dough seems too stiff for a cookie press, add a tablespoon of milk at a time.

Shape dough into 3-inch balls and drop into the barrel of a cookie press. Push dough in to eliminate spaces. Press cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

Sprinkle with colored sugars or color dough with a few drops of red or green food coloring to make festively colored cookies.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Store in airtight container. Freeze if keeping for more than 2 weeks.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

This is the best Spritz cookie recipe I've ever had! Excellent flavor. Worth getting the butterscotch schnapps bottle!

These Cream Cheese Spritz Cookies are the best I have ever made. My husband and I have ate our weight in them. I made an icing with cream cheese, confectioners sugar, butterscotch schnapps, etc. and put it on most of the cookies. I gave as gifts and everyone raved about them. Great Cookie!!

Good recipe. Cookies were delicious. I didn't have butterscotch schnapps so I used amaretto, still turned out great. I did need to add a few extra tablespoons of flour to get them to the right consistency.

Oh my gosh!! Soooo good. I didn't have the Butterscotch schnapps, or the butter flavoring, but I did use real butter. Everyone loves them. Add just a little more flour so they can go through the press.

My family fell in love with this recipe from the start. We first did it with toffee pieces instead of the schnapps as I didn't have any in the house at the time.. We dropped them by the spoonful and everyone loved them. I just got my first cookie press and we are trying them with cherry berry pucker today!

Question, is it possible to substitute the butterscotch schnapps with something else? I'm 19 so liquor is kinda out of reach.

I LOVE this recipe! I omitted all the flavorings except the vanilla, and used this a base dough. I stirred in 1 cup Andes baking chips and used the "drop" method instead of a press. SO YUMMY!! I love that they are not overly sweet and have a cake like consistency! Definitely going to use again and again!!!

I omitted schnapps, almond extract and butter flavoring; turned out beautifully with my cookie press! The last bit of dough got really soft so I popped in the fridge, left it a little too long and ended up rolling the dough and using it with cookie cutters just as an experiment...Turned out to be the best rolled cookies I've ever made! I just got finished making a double batch of the dough that I have in the fridge to roll out tomorrow. Wonderful!!!
