GRANNY'S BREAD
3 c. whole wheat flour
2 c. flour
2 pkgs. active dry yeast
1/2 c. warm water
2 1/4 c. warm milk
1/3 c honey
1/4 c. vegetable oil
2 c. quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked
1 tbsp. salt
1 egg
1 tbsp. water

Combine flours; mix well. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine milk, honey and oil in large bowl. Stir in 2 cups flour mixture. Add dissolved yeast, oats and salt. Mix well.

Gradually add remaining flour mixture. Stir in enough additional flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface 8-10 minutes or until elastic; shape to form ball.

Place in greased large bowl, turning once to coat surface. Cover; let rise in warm place 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in bulk. Punch dough down. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Divide dough in half and shape each half to form ball. Place each ball on greased cookie sheet. Cover; let rise 1 - 1 1/2 hours until double in size.

In meantime heat oven to 375 degrees. Beat together egg and water, brush over dough. Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets. Cool on wire racks. Makes 2 round loaves.
