NUTS 'N OATS BREAD | |
1/3 c. or less honey 1 2/3 c. boiling water 1 1/2 c. old fashioned oatmeal (uncooked) 1/3 c. walnut meats 1 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 yeast cake, dissolve in 1/4 c. lukewarm water 2 tbsp. butter without milk solids (Mazola) Add honey and boiling water and bring again to boiling point, then pour over oats in bowl. Cover and let stand. Break nut meats into small pieces. Sift flour and salt together. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. When oatmeal is lukewarm, add yeast, butter and nut meats and beat thoroughly. Sift part of the flour into this mixture, mix thoroughly, place on floured board and work remainder of flour into the dough, mixing and kneading into a smooth ball. Put in warmed bowl, oil top, cover and let rise to double its bulk. Knead thoroughly, let rise in baking pan (again it should double its bulk), then bake in moderate oven for 45 minutes. |
