CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter, soft
1 c. powdered sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red color
1/2 c. crushed peppermint candy
1/2 c. sugar

Combine first 8 ingredients. Divide dough in half and color one half. On floured surface, roll teaspoon of each dough into 4" rope. Make cane. Bake at 375 degrees for 9 minutes. Coat immediately with candy mixture.
