BILL'S FAVORITE APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
6 to 8 Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled and cut in 1/2 3/4 c. shortening 2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 c. milk 1/2 tsp. salt Mix and divide dough evenly into as many pieces as there are apple halves. Roll each one out on a floured board. Place apple half on rolled out dough, dot with a bit of butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Seal up dough around top and place them all in a 9 x 13 inch pan. SYRUP: 2 c. sugar 2 c. water 2 tbsp. butter Cinnamon to taste Mix in saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake at 375 degrees until apples are soft when poked with a fork approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Serve hot with whipped cream or ice cream. |
