This is the right one based on what my grandmother made. We make a little indention in the center of the disc to hold a little butter and hot sauce.

These are like my mother used to make in the 50's and 60's. She used stone ground white cornmeal and occasionally added flavorings such as black pepper, red pepper, caroway seeds, or crumbled bacon. Also they're really good fried in bacon grease. ---- Delicious!

This is the recipe my Grandmother used when I was a child. We had it almost everyday with dinner. It is great with collard, turnip, or mustard greens, fresh snapped green beans, navy beans or red beans or any fresh vegetable and soups. I have kept the tradition with my family.

EXACTLY what I remember from childhood. I'm making some today to go with BBQ. I've never made it for my family... hopefully it'll turn out like Mom's.

Has anyone tried putting "dried minced onion" into this batter? Am thinking it might make it taste like hush puppies.
