SAVORY SWISS STEAK

Round steak, cut 1 1/2 inch thick
Flour, salt & pepper
2 tbsp. shortening
2 c. canned tomatoes
2 med. onions
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 to 2 tsp. chili powder
1 sm. bay leaf
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. sugar

Combine 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper; pound into meat. Heat shortening and brown well on both sides. Top steak with sliced onions. Combine remaining ingredients with tomatoes and pour over and around steak. Cover and cook slowly until tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Add more tomatoes or a little water, if needed, during cooking. Skim off excess fat and serve steak topped with sauce.
